Beyond Meat Is Headed for Chinese Supermarket Shelves

(Bloomberg) -- Beyond Meat Inc. is headed somewhere it’s never been before: supermarket shelves in mainland China. The faux-meat maker will begin selling its plant-based burger in the frozen section of 50 Freshippo stores in Shanghai this weekend, Beyond said in a statement. Starting in September, it will expand to 48 more locations, in Beijing and Hangzhou, of the Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.-owne
“Retail will be a critical part of our success in China,” Beyond Chief Executive Officer Ethan Brown said in the statement. The supermarket partnership extends Beyond’s reach into a large and potentially lucrative market after it made inroads in China with restaurant chains such as Starbucks Corp. and Yum China Holdings Inc. Beyond rival Impossible Foods Inc. also has stated ambitions to enter the country, which accounts for more than a quarter of global meat consumption. With the global coronavirus pandemic disrupting the supply chain for beef and chicken, consumers have increasingly gravitated toward meat alternatives. Sales of plant-based meat products surged 264% in the U.S. in the early months of the lockdown. While there are mounting concerns over pandemic-related troubles for the restaurant industry, Beyond Meat’s shares have risen more than 75% so far this year.

New Zealand embassy opens free supermarket in Hanoi industrial park

The New Zealand embassy opened a free supermarket at Thang Long Industrial Park on Saturday to benefit 1,500 workers there affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the supermarket in Dong Anh District, a person is allowed to pick up for free essentials like rice, eggs, cereals, vegetables, instant noodles, face masks, and sanitizers worth up to VND200,000 ($8.6).

The supermarket has been set up by the embassy in collaboration with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Vietnam, according to a release from the embassy.

New Zealand ambassador Wendy Matthews said at the opening ceremony the project shows the unity between New Zealand and Vietnam. She said the supermarrket is a great idea to help reducing the economic effects caused by the pandemic for workers at the park and their families.

New Zealand and Vietnam celebrate the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations this year. In recent years their ties have developed strongly and steadily across diverse fields, from political aspects to trade, investment and education.

In the year to the end of March, bilateral trade turnover hit nearly $1.1 billion, up 12 percent year-on-year.

Covid-19 has spread to more than 210 countries and territories, infecting more than 8.7 million people and killing over 462,000.

Both New Zealand and Vietnam have been praised as role models in the fight against this pandemic. Vietnam has had 349 cases and zero deaths, while New Zealand has reported 1,161 cases and 22 deaths.

Siêu thị Saigon Co.op bán vải thiều trên nền tảng trực tuyến MoMo

Theo đó, khách hàng có thể dễ dàng đặt mua vải thiều với giá ưu đãi ngay trên ví điện tử MoMo, sau đó sẽ được siêu thị giao hàng tận nơi.
Đại diện Saigon Co.op cho biết từ cuối tuần trước, Saigon Co.op đã tổ chức và tham gia đồng thời hai sự kiện lớn nhằm kết nối, tiêu thụ nông sản của các tỉnh phía Bắc.

Đây là nỗ lực lớn của đơn vị nhằm đưa nông sản Việt đến mọi miền đất nước, đồng thời hỗ trợ tiêu thụ sản phẩm nội địa tìm kiếm đầu ra sau một thời gian nền kinh tế bị ảnh hưởng bởi đại dịch COVID-19.

Cụ thể tại Bắc Giang, những chuyến xe vải thiều Lục Ngạn được khởi hành xuất phát vào kinh doanh tại gần 1.000 điểm bán của Saigon Co.op trên toàn quốc.

Theo kế hoạch, năm nay, Saigon Co.op tiêu thụ lượng vải thiều tăng hơn 20% so với mùa vụ năm ngoái.

Nhà bán lẻ hàng đầu trong nước này cho biết vải thiều được thu hoạch trực tiếp từ vùng vải Lục Ngạn (Bắc Giang), Thanh Hà (Hải Dương) và đều đạt chuẩn VietGap hoặc chứng nhận trái cây an toàn.

Không dừng lại ở sản phẩm vải thiều tươi, Saigon Co.op cũng tiêu thụ sản phẩm là chế phẩm từ trái vải. Vải tươi đóng hộp có thể bảo quản và sử dụng trong khoảng thời gian dài, hiện đang được kinh doanh tại các điểm bán ở Co.op Mart, Co.opXtra và Co.op Food… với giá trung bình khoảng 40.000 đồng/hộp.

Sản phẩm này đã góp phần đáng kể trong việc hạn chế tính chất khó bảo quản của vải thiều cũng như các mặt hàng thực phẩm tươi sống nói chung.

Ông Đỗ Quốc Huy, giám đốc marketing Saigon Co.op, cho biết ứng dụng công nghệ vào mua sắm sẽ tăng trải nghiệm cho người tiêu dùng gắn với thói quen thanh toán không dùng tiền mặt. Không những vậy, đưa nông sản lên nền tảng trực tuyến cũng tăng hiệu quả đầu ra cho sản phẩm.

Siêu thị “nghẹt thở” vì người Hà Nội đổ xô đi mua sầu riêng hạ giá chưa từng thấy

Trong 2 ngày 30 – 31/5, dòng người liên tục đổ xô tới một siêu thị lớn trên đường Trần Duy Hưng (Hà Nội) để tìm mua sầu riêng giá rẻ. Theo đó, sầu riêng ở đây bán với giá 49.000 đồng/kg, đây được cho là mức giá rẻ hơn 1 nửa so với thị trường chung.
Thời gian gần đây, sầu riêng giá rẻ tạo ra cơn sốt mới cho thị trường tiêu dùng Hà Nội, đặc biệt với những tín đồ lâu năm của loại quả này. Do mong muốn kích cầu trở lại sau dịch Covid-19, nhiều siêu thị lớn tại Hà Nội áp dụng hàng loạt các chương trình khuyến mại, giảm giá sốc chưa từng thấy với các loại trái cây mùa hè. Trong đó, sầu riêng là loại quả được giảm giá sâu nhất, đồng thời cũng được người tiêu dùng “săn lùng” nhiều nhất.

Hệ thống siêu thị, cửa hàng tiện ích tại Hà Nội: Vừa bán hàng vừa chống dịch

Trước diễn biến phức tạp của dịch Covid-19, từ ngày 1/4, Tập đoàn BRG (đơn vị vận hành các chuỗi siêu thị, cửa hàng tiện ích HaproMart, Hapro Food, Intimex, Seika Mart, Fuji Mart) đã mở thêm 10 cửa hàng tiện ích Hapro Food tại các địa điểm trung tâm để giúp người tiêu dùng Thủ đô thuận tiện trong việc đi lại, rút ngắn khoảng cách đến các điểm mua sắm. Ông Nguyễn Thái Dũng, Chủ tịch Tổng công ty Thương mại Hà Nội - CTCP (Hapro - đơn vị thành viên Tập đoàn BRG) chia sẻ, ngoài việc phục vụ khách đến mua sắm trực tiếp tại các điểm bán hàng, Hapro còn phát triển việc bán hàng đa kênh qua thư điện tử, trang Fanpage trên mạng xã hội Facebook, điện thoại… và giao hàng tại nhà. Trong những ngày qua, hệ thống siêu thị, cửa hàng tiện ích trong chuỗi BRG Mart đã giao hàng miễn phí cho hàng nghìn đơn hàng mỗi ngày.

We rightly praise shopkeepers trying to do the best for their customers. But I’ll never forgive the price-gougers exploiting the pandemic

Heroes and villains of the business world are quite boring: Richard Branson is always the villain; James Timpson is always the hero. We didn’t need a crisis to learn this; any fool could have said it a decade ago. Timpson has been rehabilitating prisoners, fixing them up with employment upon release, actually setting up training workshops in some jails, for years. And Branson has been the man he is, also for years.

Corner shops, however, are less clear cut: I am fascinated by the raw emotion they ignite, and am obsessed with whether or not I will maintain my fierce new loyalties and hatreds once lockdown is lifted, or forget them within a week.

So, there was an everything-and-nothing shop I always felt guilty about, after a small supermarket opened and just sold more, better, cheaper stuff. But since lockdown, they have turned out to be price gougers. Full fiver-for-hand-sanitiser, loo-roll-out-the-back-for-roughly-the-price-of-drugs bad guys, the kind of people who would swap you a jar of jam for an emerald broach in the middle of a siege. About three weeks in, they stopped serving people at all, and would only serve Deliveroo drivers, through a hatch; fags for £25 and whisky for the kind of price that even someone in the grip of delirium tremens should think twice about.

“Are you for real,” I asked, trying to score some Carlsberg through the hatch, “after all the Haribo and Monster Munch I’ve detoured here for, to keep morale up?” “Yes, darling,” they said, deploying this empty endearment as if their hands were tied by the gods of health and safety.

But then there is an establishment with a surprising but very niche butchery counter and a hardware section out the back, known to us as the testicles-and-fuses shop. I never thought I would be able to buy Nutella in there. Nor did I expect much reciprocal loyalty, given how seldom I needed the gonads of a lamb. Oh, mate. They have deeper mines of Nutella than I knew there were in the world, and are like the Euripides of DIY. If I am back on Ocado, eight seconds after normal life resumes, I shall have severely disappointed myself.
